In a web posting days after the terrorist attack he describes begging God for mercy as he wept over his latest sermon with the smoke from the ruins of the World Trade Centre still visible from his study window.

Less than a week after the Twin Towers attacks, one of America’s great prophetic voice Paul Cain interrupted a conference in Kansas City with what he claims is a direct word from God.

In his statement on September 17, weeks ahead of any emergence of germ warfare Paul Cain warned this was the beginning of the end and now was the time to pray for revival. "The Lord said he is going to do a fast work."

He spoke of full stadiums, God healing the sick and raising the dead and many being afflicted "by germ warfare, or anthrax, or [polluted] water systems filled with deadly bacteria." He warned the Christian community to be prayed up and ‘ready to go’. "Take no chances. I wouldn't want to be sitting in front of a stupid television program or in a crazy movie house watching a worldly presentation or a movie taking the Lord's name in vain and dishonouring God the way they do, for anything in the world."

He said when he first became an evangelist people were healed but his desire was to get back to evangelism and the winning of souls. "I had that fiery evangelism locked up in me. I would preach and so many people would be saved in those days. Even the Baptists would have me preach for them, and some of the Methodists, before the charismatic thing was started. … I got away from that, and just started praying for the sick and preaching to the church. I'm getting back to the sawdust trail. I'm getting back to the old time, old gospel preaching, and try to win as many souls as I can, no matter what the cost."

Paul Cain says the events of September 11^th have caused people to turn to God but he warns something even more devastating is coming. "Something more evil and more horrible is headed our way. We are going to have to be so full of God and so full of the Holy Ghost that we can withstand all of these onslaughts of the devil. You could kill every terrorist in the world, and still that devil would still be living to raise up new terrorists…."

"There has been warning after warning - prophetic utterance, one after another. Do you realize how many of these warnings actually reach the state department, and the FBI? I read some documents that were forwarded to the FBI only the other day that outlined some
of the catastrophic things that are about to take place….There are some very serious things set in motion at this very hour. … I don't want you to live in fear. If our lives are in alignment with the word of God, and we're living in obedience to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and to the Word, we need not fear pestilence, nor plague, nor germ warfare, or even nuclear
warfare. The bottom line is, it will get worse. We will have all of these
things sooner or later. …There are things that are so frightening that men's hearts will fail them."

  Fear Not But Be Prepared

"And on every lofty mountain and on every high hill there will be streams running with water on the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall,"  Isaiah 30:25

Old Testament prophet Isaiah could well have been referring to the World Trade Center twin-towers tragedy - according to Rick Joyner the mountains could be governments, the hills societies or movements and the streams of water the "Word of God" flowing out across the land in the wake of the terrorist attacks.

He says the Word of God, truth, is now flowing around the world in a way that he has not seen in his lifetime. News anchormen and women are declaring profound truths from God's Word. "There is a heightened level of discernment to recognize truth on the part of those who just a week ago were scorning it. The light now shining on the earth does seem to be much brighter than any time in my memory."

Rick Joiner is one of the gentler, wiser voices I have come to trust over the years. His prophecies and wisdom seem tempered with a sense of order, not reactionary but attempting to look deeper into situations rather than rush into print with a "me too" doomsaying or legalism.

On the day of the attack he posted a reminder that Christians, are citizens of a kingdom that cannot be shaken. "In the midst of everything like this that happens, we must first focus on the Lord and His unshakable throne in heavenly places. It is more crucial than ever for Christians to abide in the peace of God which is not dependent on any earthly circumstances, but on the power of our Almighty God. We overcome evil with the counter-power of good. The counter to the fear and panic that the enemy will try to sow in the hearts of all those he can reach through this kind of evil, is the peace of God."

He cautioned that we "…see through a glass, darkly," and we only "know in part" (I Corinthians 13:12 KJV). His earlier words relating to the impending Y2K deadline as a ‘non event’ were similarly edged with caution to over-reacting and making assumptions about the end of the world. He was also ‘told’ preparations for Y2K were in fact grace from the Lord to help them be prepared for other events that were to follow.

Joiner and a number of his ‘prophetic friends’ have been shown terrorist attacks that would lead to marshal law in the United States for a time. While the escalation of warfare against terrorists and their desperate retaliations, could lead to that for a time.      

On the second day after the terror attack he got this verse: "They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon." (Abaddon means ‘destroying angel’ and Apollyon means basically the same, ‘destroyer’.")

"The first woe is past; behold, two woes are still coming after these things" (Revelation 9:12). I did feel a strong impression from both of these verses, and I do believe that there are more terrorists attacks planned, probably two more major assaults, just as this verse implies, says Joiner.

 Joyner’s advice is to resist fear, hold on to faith and to take advantage of "one of the widest open doors for the gospel in the last 50-years." He suggests the very intent is to attack the temporal things we place our faith in, economic and military security rather than faith in God.

"The main reason that America is so hated by much of Islam is because we put ‘In God We Trust’ on our money and then promote sexual and moral perversion and debauchery throughout the world. We not only do this with our movies, television programs, books, magazines, and other materials, but we also promote it with our behaviour. Islam views these perversions as the product of Christian nations, " says Rick Joiner.

"The revolution in Iran was ignited when an American ‘R’ rated movie opened in Tehran. The people rose up with such outrage that they determined to die rather than allow any more of the moral filth coming out of America to pollute their country. As the moral meltdown in America has increased many more Moslems have begun to share a horror of what is viewed as American moral corruption. As they look up at the great economic and military power of America against which they cannot compete, they feel forced to take desperate measures to try to stop it."

Some Christian leaders have inferred that the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon were judgment from God. "I do not believe this is true because these attacks have all of the hallmarks of Satan, and none that reflect the nature of God. The Lord can be severe, and He does bring judgment, but even if the Lord sends armies, or natural disasters as judgment upon a nation, they will always have a certain dignity and class with which the Lord does everything. I do not believe there can be any question that the attack on the WTC was diabolical in its nature and source. We need to get this straight if we are going to know how to respond in these times because this represents the coming of some of our greatest challenges in history, as well as our greatest opportunities."

Rick Joiner quotes the scriptures from Ephesians 6:

The devil prophesied through Osama ben Ladin that the U.S. would "fear from North to South and East to West." That is the devil's strategy, and we need to determine that we are going to do what Ephesians 6:13 says,

If the devil has determined that everyone in the U.S. is going to live in fear, we need to determine that we are going to grow in faith, and impart faith everywhere we go. We need to pray for the Lord to raise up His people in every city, town, and village in America with great faith and courage, imparting it with great boldness to all Americans.

The devil has prophesied that fear will cover America, but the Lord has another word for us. A great awakening is coming to America and faith will cover the land from North to South, East to West. Every attack of the enemy will only result in more unity, with Americans arising to become even more bold and courageous than they ever have before.

And the Lord says, 'Over the next 30 days there is a deciding moment... a moment of decision as to what I will do with this nation,' says the Lord. 'Do not take lightly what I have brought you here to do. Cry out not only for yourselves, but for you children and grandchildren. Cry out! For you have not seen in this generation a great depression,' says the Lord, 'you do not know what it is like to find work and not to be able to feed your children, but I say to you,' says the Lord, 'you are at a pivotal time in history where either there will be great revival in this nation or a great depression, 'says the Lord."
